BBDF’s Principal Scientist Participates in the Keystone Symposia on “Autophagy: Fundamentals to Disease”

On May 23-28, 2014, Dr. Danielle Kerkovich did not have to travel far to attend the Keystone Symposia on Molecular and Cellular Biology on “Autophagy: Fundamentals to Disease,” which was held in BBDF’s hometown of Austin, TX. Autophagy is a fundamental cellular process that orchestrates the degradation of proteins, lipids and organelles during both basal and cellular or environmental stress conditions. It plays a critical role in normal and disease situations and is especially pertinent to lysosomal diseases, such as Batten disease. At the symposium, BBDF-funded, Dr. Andrea Ballabio, presented his paper titled “The Transcriptional Control of Autophagy in Health and Disease.” To learn more, visit
